PRE FMP

First of all I wanted to research the methodical concept of the ‘Cut Up Method’, the person who particularly did this method well and stood out to me was ‘William Burroughs’. So for research I looked at a number of websites and books such as ‘The Naked Lunch’ by William Burroughs as to explore how he does cut ups and what he creates. From researching this method I have ideas such as to do cut ups to practice my on going poetry which I like to do aside my paintings. However I could also suggest using text and combining that into my outcomes. Another idea from this method is to do visual cut ups , such as of the body to create a collage like outcome.

“The cutup is a mechanical method of juxtaposition in which Burroughs literally cuts up passages of prose by himself and other writers and then pasted them back together at random. This literary version of the collage technique is also supplemented by literary use of other media”

Another artist that was really inspired by this method was David Bowie who used William Burroughs method of the cutup as inspiration of a way to create some of his songs.​
